moment by moment, listening to the breath of life that passes through me and the music that vibrates my body. I learn to live in the present in search of my essence and a creative language that I wish to share. A language that has its roots in silence, listening, and the practice of music from various cultures, music that is and has been. I learn to know where I come from, in order to go and discover a new language with presence, perception, listening, love, empathy, not knowing moment by moment what will happen…

Time, space, depth are fundamental ingredients of the compositions.

Elisa Ulian, musician and experimental singer

She has been working for years in the field of vocal experimentation and research.

A graduate in piano from the G. Tartini Conservatory in Trieste (Italy), she also studied singing and choral conducting. From an early age, she worked as an accompanist pianist for singers, vocalist, choir conductor, and singing teacher.

In 2007, she began her studies at the Modern Music School in Lugano (Switzerland), where she attended the “VocalSound” course led by Anna Bacchia, deepening her exploration of experimental vocal work, new cognitive approaches, and bioresonance.

That same year, she began collaborating with the vocal trio Vocinconsuete, with whom she created and recorded the MILADISE project, blending vocal traditions from northern Italy – Friuli Venezia Giulia – with experimentation and improvisation.

From 2009 to 2015, she attended theater-dance courses with Cristiana Fusillo, sensitive dance workshops with Claude Coldy, and she experienced Mikusano Mitakara, an ancient Japanese tradition, with Lida Shigemi.

From 2010 to 2020, she participated in improvisation festivals such as the Festival Form Radykalnie Improwizowanich(Poland), I Suoni della MontagnaTarcento Jazz FestivalContrattempi 2017Stazione di Topoló (Italy), Kavč FestivalFloating Castle Festival (Slovenia), Chilli JazzSchnittpunkte der Musik FestivalOn Dialogue FestivalFree Forms Meetings (Austria), Sotu Festival (Netherlands), and Multiversal Festival in Italy, Slovenia, Greece, Germany, Denmark, and Norway.

With this orchestra, she also recorded the albums Orkester Brez Meja/Orchestra Senza Confini, Schengen and Live in Nova Gorica.

From 2014 to 2018, she took part in Improcon international improvisation meetings in Croatia and Slovenia.

She has also participated in performances and workshops with Ute Wassermann, Sainkho Namtchylak, Zlatko Kaučič, Paul Rogers, Seijiro Murayama, Bobby McFerrin, Daniele D’Agaro, Giovanni Maier, Francesco Cusa, Mauro Costantini, Enrica Bacchia, Matteo Belli, Albert Hera, Arrington De Dionyso, Michael Delia, Giorgio Pacorig, Colin McKellar, among others.

In 2018, she started traveling across Europe with Wargasound and Ambulans Théâtre, collecting songs from different traditions.

Today, she lives in France and offers workshops and concerts in France and Europe under the title “CHANTS DU MONDE & IMPROVISATION“, where, through songs from various traditions, she explores and awakens the creativity of each person she meets.

She loves exploring the roots and vocal traditions of different cultures to enrich her vocal and sound repertoire while embarking on a journey to discover her own creative language based on improvisation.

Currently, she collaborates with the creative vocal group Cantocorpo in Nièvre, France.

She sings solo and in various ensembles in France, Italy, and across Europe and organise voice, singing, and improvisation workshops.
